Welcome to the news section of Penkala.org. Here you will find all kinds of updates coming straight from Leo so check back frequently.

In January 2007 a major tornado hit the Deland, Florida area. Members of family who live in the area did lose their home and personal property, but thankfully none of them were seriously injured. Once we learned of our family members distress family members from around the country pulled resources, made phone calls to friends and pulled together clothing, household items, toys, and other much needed items. These items were then loaded into a pickup truck and 12' enclosed trailer and left the Chicago area 48 hours after the tornado touched down. We would like to thank everyone who assisted in this effort and know that your generosity was very much appreciated.

Below you find a letter written by our affected family members. You can view photos of their home after the tornado in the photo gallery. Click on the "Pictures" at the top of the page.

"We would like to take the time to Thank everyone who has helped us get started again after the devastating tornado. Our home was destroyed along with most of its contents. The help of clothes, furniture, household items, toys and money have helped us get a new start. We are very grateful for all the support we have recieved from the community and family. We recieved so many donated items that we were able to donate to other tornado victims in the area. We went to the mobile home parks and apartment complexes on the street and donated some of the items we could not use or had duplicates of. The items that were donated did not go to waste and were accepted with love by other victims. We were fortunate enough to have a place to live the day the tornado hit thanks to my brother and his family. We were able to furnish our home thanks to the family and community in Illinois. We were able to give our children clothes and toys thanks to the many people who donated through out the community. We would like to thank Deltona High School, where Ken works, for the money and gift cards. Thank you to the Penkala family in Illinois for the monetary dontation. Our family is very grateful for the outpouring of support we we recieved.

From our Family to yours we Thank you,

Jenn, Aaron, Bethany, Ethan and Lorelai
Ken and Jimmy Barnes"
